One of my first professional roles. Pitching Gillette to Walmart. To a buyer who controlled a category worth more than $1.2 billion. With $750M on the line. The sales equivalent of "getting thrown in the deep end".
When week-to-week sales are worth upwards of $12 million, every meeting carries a lot of weight. Being put in that environment at a young age taught me the fundamentals of preparation and execution that I still carry today.
Developed a brand-new advertising position and the marketing strategy to promote it. The position sold 10% of category revenue in its first year, then 2.5x that amount the following year.
I didn't just create the product:
Worked hand-in-hand with the sales team to close deals related to events. Created custom measurement and analysis products and sold them to clients. Innovated our marketing and sales materials for our digital, print, and event products. Averaged $200k profit on 6 grocery industry events per year.
From scheduling meetings with advertisers, to bringing their grocery executive clients to the table... We moved the WGB brand from 3rd to 1st within 18 months.
Developed new media to help improve the impact of our sales team and directly correlate marketing messages to sales goals. Optimized our paid media conversions to increase qualified leads by hundreds per campaign.
